Accredited Community Safety Officer
Richard Stoop
acso@bishopswaltham-pc.gov.uk
An Accredited Community Safety Officer plays a vital role in enhancing community safety by addressing issues like anti-social behaviour and nuisance, and by connecting residents, local authorities, and other agencies to identify and resolve issues affecting the quality of life in their areas.
Key roles and Responsibilities
Community Engagement – ACSO’s are actively involved in engaging with residents, listening to their concerns, and providing support information
Problem Solving – They work to address everyday issues that affect residents’ quality of life, such as youth nuisance, under-age drinking, and other forms of anti-social behaviour
Information Gathering and Reporting – ACSOs gather information about community issues, including incidents they witness directly or receive from residents, and report this information to relevant authorities, such as the police or local council, for further action
Mediation and Conflict Resolution – They may engage in street-level mediation to help resolve conflicts between residents and address minor disputes
Referrals – ACSOs can refer individuals to relevant support services, such as mental health services, drug and alcohol treatment, or housing assistance, when appropriate
Enforcement (limited) – In some cases, ACSOs may have limited enforcement powers, such as the ability to confiscate alcohol or tobacco from minors, or issue fixed penalty notices for certain offences
The Parish Council is delighted to welcome two new Community Safety Officers (CSOs), Lisa and Brendan, who will be joining our current Accredited Community Safety Officer (ACSO), Richard.
As well as supporting Bishop’s Waltham, Lisa and Brendan will also be working across neighbouring parishes, helping to build on the success of the Community Safety Scheme and the value that residents place on having a visible, reassuring daily safety patrol.
If you see Lisa, Brendan or Richard out and about in Bishop’s Waltham, please do stop to say hello. They are here to support our community, provide reassurance, and are always happy to have a chat.
Together, we’re helping to keep Bishop’s Waltham a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
You can contact Brendan and Lisa using the telephone number and email address above.
